If you haven’t seen Oldboy, you owe it to yourself. Don’t watch a trailer, just rent/buy it (non dubbed, subtitle version) and watch it. One of my very favorite foreign films and has one of the best fight scenes of all time.
My Scarface poster drops today at the Mondo booth at Wondercon.
I was really excited when they asked me to do this. I love the movie, in all it’s 80’s glory. It was the first time I ever saw the protagonist turn into an antagonist. It was quite jarring, but it made an impression on me.
For the poster, I wanted to sum up Tony as best I could without guns/violence. He’s a crude man trying to be slick and sophisticated but he’s never able to pull it off. The brute inside of him always shines through.
Anyways, I can’t wait to see this hanging in a rappers house in a future episode of Cribs (that’s still on, right?)
I did this commission over a year ago for my buddy Ruben Fleischer as a wrap gift for Josh Brolin. It’s Brolin as O’Mara from Gangster Squad, which Ruben directed. I was really honored that he asked me to do this. The turnaround time was something like 4 days though, so it was a bit stressful but I’m happy with the result.
The finished piece was printed on 18x24” (stretched) canvas and embellished with some acrylic paint.
Also, Gangster Squad is awesome! I saw an early version of it many months ago, and everyone brings their A game. A little bummed they cut out the movie theater shoot out, as it was one of my favorite scenes (cinematography wise) of all time.
